Lawrence Township                     Senior Services

Our Seniors (60+) in the Village and Township of Lawrence or own property in Lawrence are serviced with many free activities during each year.  Our citizens have elected to receive 0.50Mil in tax revenues so they can receive these services completely free.

Recently, Hamilton Township sent money to our senior services so their residents 60+ are also allowed to attend our lunches/activities/trips for free.

Twice monthly luncheonsat the Lawrence Township Hall (411 N Paw Paw Street) on the second and forth Mondays with social time at 11am,  lunch at 11:30am   followed usually by Bingo until 1:30p

 

Join Us  Wednesdays  for  Games Day - 1-3pm bring a friend or meet some new ones. We have many card, dice, and board games to chose from....or bring your favorite game. (Euchre and Canasta games all being played!!

 

 

                ALL Trips leave from Lawrence Township 

Above are some of our folks during Games on Wednesdays. 

We have great lunches and Bingo games

on the 2nd and 4th Mondays each month.

When looking at this calendar know you can sign up 2 months ahead of the bus trips by attending our twice monthly lunches (2nd and 4th Mondays) or calling the Clerk's Office @ 269-674-4255 Option 3. All our events and activities are free to Lawrence Village and Township Residents, Hamilton Township Residents and property owners over 60. Non-residents can participate if they pay cost/person for any event. (lunches are $12) Our residents do get first option on our trips but we have apx. 56 seats to fill so if room we are happy to include others...(we do add a second bus on our Shipshewana trips to accommodate our large numbers)

Fun at the Gilmore Car Museum May 2023

June 15, 2023 Maritime Museum Trip 66 people attended-50 went on boat rides and 10 received vouchers to go another day...

Mondays 10:00am - 11:00am

Stretch & Strengthen classes will include varity of therapeutic revitalizing movements and breathing techniques drawn from Yoga, QiGong, Tai Chi and other somatic practices. Classes are limited to 15 participants. Registration is appreciated (at Township Hall) but not required.  Held in the Township Hall Community Room. Classes are geared toward class members abilities. Most done sitting in a chair or holding onto a chair.

Others may make a donation for attending)

 

Thursdays: 5:00 to 6:00pm 

It will be held at the Lawrence Library

Class is for those that can do Yoga

Energizing: This class includes the benefits of the basic movements (above) and will be more challenging with complex and/or strenuous movements, possibly including weights, sometimes holding in positions to increase endurance and physical capacity, and sometimes done in a continuous flow. Some regular prior physical practice is highly recommended. 

 

Bring a Mat if you have one otherwise, we will have some available.

Let's Get Walking

 

All Senior Walkers
• Complete LPS waiver and a valid ID to present in person at the school. Contact is Amber Trowbridge.
• If Amber is available, the limited background check will be done while you are there. If not it will be completed and you will be notified of status.
• Once the security requirements have been met, arrive at the back door of the high school at 4:30 to be let into the building by one of the custodial staff. For Security purposes, this will be the entrance time and walkers are not allowed to let others into the building. (The 4:30 arrival doesn't mean you need to be in the school for the entire 2 hour block.)
• You must bring a pair of shoes to be worn inside or a rag or towel to wipe down your shoes before you will be allowed to join the walkers.

Community Cardio Drumming

        Cardio Drumming and other fitness classes are offered at the Old Town Hall (downtown Lawrence) 4 days/week and have several participants within our group who are in their 60s and 70s. 

 

ALL of the fitness classes we hold at the Old Town Hall are FREE & open to the public. We have loaner equipment that can be used for the 1st  three class sessions for FREE...after that, we ask that folks either purchase their own equipment OR pay a $5 equipment rental fee per class.

 

Class schedule is as follows

 

Cardio Drumming Mon/Th 6-7p

 

Full Body Fit Wed 6-7pm

 

Cardio HIIT Sat 10-11am

Bloomingdale Senior Services LLC is an approved Home Help Agency of MDHHS.  We are approved to provide services to all of VanBuren county.

NO COST

For Medicaid recipients who need hands-on care and want to live independently. The Home Help program is designed to support individuals who wish to live independently in their home rather than live in an adult foster care home, home for the aged, or nursing facility. 

Currently we are accepting new referrals.

We have teams of local residents living and working in the following communities:

    Bloomingdale, 

    Grand Junction, 

    South Haven, 

    Hartford, 

    Lawrence and 

    Paw Paw.
