Assessing Department

The Assessing Department is responsible for maintaining accurate property records, determining assessed and taxable values, administering exemptions, and ensuring fair and equitable property taxation in accordance with Michigan law.

 

Assessing information is available at no cost for parcels you own. A fee may apply for requests involving parcels you do not own.

Property Tax Information

Lawrence Township collects property taxes as required by law. Property tax records, parcel information, and tax history are maintained in coordination with Van Buren County.

 

Residents may access detailed property tax information, including parcel data and payment history, through the county system.

Online Property Tax Payments

Lawrence Township offers a secure online payment option for property taxes through GovPayNow. Residents may use the link below or scan the QR code to submit payments online.

Payments are processed through a secure third-party payment provider. A processing fee applies.

Summer Property Tax Deferment

Under certain conditions, summer property tax payments may be deferred without interest, as permitted by Michigan law.

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

To qualify, all of the following must apply:

  • The parcel is the owner’s principal residence or qualifying agricultural real property

  • The owner is 62 years of age or older, or disabled (as defined by the Michigan Department of Treasury)

  • The owner meets the annual household income limit established by the State of Michigan

  • Deferred taxes must be paid by the statutory deadline

How to Request a Deferment

If you believe you meet the eligibility requirements:

  • The completed request form must be received by the Lawrence Township Treasurer by the applicable annual deadline.
  • Late requests cannot be accepted

This letter outlines the historical agreements related to the building, how circumstances have changed over time, and the Board’s responsibility to evaluate long-term financial obligations on behalf of Lawrence Township taxpayers.

 

The Board remains committed to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and open, good-faith communication as discussions continue.
