NOTICE OF BUILDING DEPARTMENT CHANGES
Effective August 5, 2025, Lawrence Township has transitioned from SAFEbuilt to a new vendor: Michigan Code Inspections, LLC (MCI). MCI now handles all building and zoning permit administration, including residential and commercial projects, new construction, remodels, demolitions, and all electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits.
Please use the updated MCI forms, available at www.mcilc.us, and discard any previous forms referencing SAFEbuilt.
The first step in obtaining a building permit for any new structure is to submit a Zoning Permit Application along with a Site Overview Drawing.
MCI will review your submittal to ensure it complies with the Lawrence Township Zoning Ordinance. If the project does not meet zoning requirements, MCI will provide guidance and available options.

You must also include a completed Tax Payment Certification Form with your application.
