Lawrence Township contracts with Michigan Code Inspections, LLC (MCI) to provide building and trade permit services, inspections, and code compliance administration for properties within the Township.
MCI is responsible for issuing permits, conducting inspections, and responding to building-related permit and inspection questions.

Michigan Code Inspections, LLC (MCI) does not maintain a full-time, regularly scheduled on-site representative at the Lawrence Township Hall.
An MCI representative may be available at the Township Hall on a limited or as-needed basis. For all inspections, permit questions, scheduling, and building inquiries, residents are encouraged to contact MCI directly.

Information from the Lawrence Township Board of Directors
On January 15, 2026, the Lawrence Township Board of Directors approved the posting of the following letter to provide residents with background and context regarding the Van Buren District Library (VBDL) building located in Lawrence Township.
This letter outlines the historical agreements related to the building, how circumstances have changed over time, and the Board’s responsibility to evaluate long-term financial obligations on behalf of Lawrence Township taxpayers.
The Board remains committed to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and open, good-faith communication as discussions continue.
